John Combs

I was born in Denver, Colorado; the son of two southerners from Kentucky and Louisiana respectively. I was raised in the suburbs of Denver and was a product of my generation (Generation X) and suburban living. To tell the truth, I was a bit of a nerd; long before it became culturally relevant or accepted. I listened to New Wave, played Dungeons and Dragons, read sci-fi and fantasy and collected comics. Being African-American, I suffered both from my belonging to that subculture and not being stereotypically black. I also read voraciously, wrote poetry and stories and competed successfully in speech competitions and acting.

I went to and graduated from Colorado State University in Speech and Political Science. During and after college, I did stand-up and continued to read and write. I ended up getting certified to be a paralegal after graduation and did that for quite some time.

I am a Vajrayana Buddhist and still write often. This is my first foray in submitting an idea to Movie Pitcher and have quite a few ideas as well as screenplays. I currently own an auto parts business and I am married with 3 children. I have a black belt in Kung Fu and a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and spend my leisure time reading and writing. My interests are so varied, it would be difficult to list them all here, but a brief list would include: poetry, martial arts, Western Philosophy, Eastern Philosophy, esoteric traditions, video games, Japanese language, comic books, stand-up, history, sushi, art house movies, comedies and social movements.
