Hi, I'm Matt. I was born in Phoenix, Arizona and am the oldest of four children. I graduated from high school in 2000 and shortly after, enlisted in the U.S. Navy. I did two deployments on the aircraft carrier USS Constellation. While in between Pearl Harbor and San Diego finishing my first deployment, 9/11 happened. I believe a Disney film was made of it. My second deployment was for the Iraq war. After that deployment, we decommissioned the ship, and I finished my obligation to the Navy on the USS Tarawa.
Raised by a single mother in Arizona, my dad lived in San Diego. He helped build the diet pill company Metabolife as an outside CPA and had a small practice. While I was stationed in San Diego, a federal investigation was underway into him and his affiliation with the company. In 2003, he took his own life. As a result, I gave my life to Jesus Christ at The Rock Church in San Diego. Unbeknownst to me, God would lead me on a seven year journey that would lead me to New York and make a brand new start of my life at the International Modeling and Talent Association and discover my acting identity.
I wrote a biopic screenplay about myself entitled, "It Happened For A Reason." The script is about what God did with me, too many miracles for a biography, but I'll give you an example. While at the convention, I saw Mark Wahlberg getting his star on the Walk of Fame on TV in my hotel room. I expected something to do with the HBO series, How To Make It In America. After the convention, I flew back to Houston from New York, drove to Phoenix, and got the theme of the show out of a fortune cookie from the leasing agent (who just so happened to be an Army vet who did two tours in Iraq) at the apartment complex where I signed a lease. The fortune read, "The good life is a process not a state of being. It is a direction not a destination." It even had both our lucky numbers, seven and thirteen. It was the whole point of the show. It was cancelled in 2011, but could my story bring the show back with me on it?
I realized I was supposed to write a screenplay about everything. So not knowing what the heck I'm doing, I embarked on this journey. I did study theater for a little bit at a junior college for and did a couple plays. But, I'm excited about the future and sharing my story with the world. I guess we'll see if Movie Pitcher can make these dreams come true.
